ETIHAD AMONG FIRST TO LAUNCH IATA TRAVEL PASS

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has announced a partnership to launch the IATA Travel Pass.

The IATA Travel Pass is a mobile app to help passengers manage their travel in line with government requirements for COVID-19 tests or vaccines. Initially being offered to Etihad’s passengers in the first quarter of 2021 on selected flights from Abu Dhabi, if successful, it will be extended to other destinations on the airline’s network.

“COVID-19 tests and vaccinations will be key to get the world flying again. A high priority for Etihad is for our guests to have an easy, secure and efficient way to identify and verify their information. Being one of the first airlines globally working with IATA as a pioneer partner on the IATA Travel Pass is a big step forward for Etihad’s guests and for the industry,” said Mohammad Al Bulooki, Chief Operating Officer, Etihad Aviation Group.

The Pass will enable travellers to create a ‘digital passport’ to receive COVID test results and verify they are eligible to undertake their journey. Importantly, it will keep passengers in control of their data and facilitate the sharing of their test with airlines and authorities for travel.

It will also make it convenient for passengers to manage travel documentation throughout their journey.

“We applaud Etihad’s efforts around standardising passenger wellness and campaigning for a united regulatory response to restore confidence in flying and give governments the confidence to re-open borders,” said The Travel Authority Group’s CEO, Peter Hosper.

ETIHAD’S Global COVID-19 Insurance

Etihad Airways is introducing COVID-19 global wellness insurance cover as part of the airline’s health and hygiene program—Etihad Wellness.

So, what’s it all about?

Etihad passengers who are diagnosed with COVID-19 during their trip won’t have to worry about medical expenses or quarantine costs.

If you are diagnosed with COVID-19 while you’re away from home, Etihad’s COVID-19 global wellness insurance will cover up to EUR150K of medical costs, and up to EUR100 per day of quarantine costs in case of a positive diagnosis for 14 days.

“This is a welcome initiative by the national carrier of the UAE. While we’re still a way from anything resembling a ‘normal’ flying environment, program’s like this play an important role in rebuilding passenger and client confidence.”

Peter Hosper – CEO, The Travel Authority Group.

All Etihad tickets, regardless of date of booking, traveling between now and 31 December 2020 will include the COVID-19 insurance. If you have an existing booking you don’t need to do anything—you will be automatically enrolled into the program.

The insurance is valid worldwide for 31 days from the first day of travel.

“The introduction of global COVID-19 insurance, in partnership with AXA, builds on stringent measures already in place as part of our Etihad Wellness program” said Duncan Bureau, Senior Vice President Sales and Distribution, Etihad Airways.

“This additional cover will not only instil confidence to travel but also reassure our guests that we are doing all we can to keep them safe and protected. As more countries start opening their borders, we are making it as easy as possible for our guests to plan their next trip, hassle free,” Bureau added.

WE KNOW: Etihad Business Class

Sarah Bush, Director of The Travel Authority Group, hit the skies again recently, flying long-haul from Sydney with Etihad Airways.

This trip enabled Sarah to experience a few things for the first time. Those being a first visit to The House lounge at Sydney Airport, and a first time flying during Ramadan.

Observed by Muslims, Ramadan is a month of fasting, prayer and reflection. Sarah wondered how flying during Ramadan might influence the service offered by a Middle-Eastern carrier.

Very little, it turns out.

“Save for a special Ramadan offering on the in-flight menu, you wouldn’t even know. Those not fasting enjoyed the full service of F&B on the ground and in the air”, reports Sarah.

Ramadan continues until 04 June, 2019.

On board, Sarah found the hardware comfortable and practical.

“Mine was a good, comfortable business class seat with decent size TV, a nice little amenity pack, and plenty of storage for books, glasses, laptop and shoes”, says Sarah.

And The House lounge?

“The House is a lovely space of tranquility. There’s loads of casual seating and a beautiful little restaurant with proper tables, cutlery and napkins, and a good snack menu served directly to you by very friendly and welcoming staff”, Sarah reports.

The House is a new lounge brand launched by the airline in collaboration with No1 Lounges to create a ‘stylish and contemporary airport lounge experience in keeping with Etihad’s design and guest experience philosophy.’

Sarah flew on an Etihad Boeing 777-300ER, and was seated in seat 10C.

ETIHAD’S NEW ‘ECONOMY SPACE’ SEATING

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, is rolling out a new seating option called ‘Economy Space’ across its fleet of wide-body aircraft to enhance its product offering and to provide more choice on longer flights.

The redesign increases the number of extra legroom seats in Economy from 20 to 80 on this type of aircraft. Please note, however, this is not a ‘Premium Economy’ seat, more an Economy-plus affair.

From 15 December 2018 all A380 flights to London, Paris, Sydney and New York will have additional Economy Space seating, giving guests the benefit of up to a 36-inch seat pitch for a small additional fee.

The airline has advised The Travel Authority that Economy Space seating will inhabit rows 41 to 47, and additional fees are expected to be:

Abu Dhabi to Sydney v.v. AU$250.30 each way
Abu Dhabi to London Heathrow v.v. AU$208.60 each way
Abu Dhabi to Paris v.v. AU$159.90 each way
Abu Dhabi to New York v.v. AU$250.30 each way

Pricing is subject to change due to currency fluctuations and other factors.

In addition, by the end of 2019 Etihad will have also added additional Economy Space seats to 12 Boeing 777s and 21 Boeing 787 Dreamliners. This will increase the total number of extra legroom seats by 560 per cent.

“Etihad’s Economy Space seats are an interesting enhancement to an already excellent Economy Class experience. We think they will be popular with leisure travellers looking for a bit more space without the premium required to fly Etihad’s Business Class”, said The Travel Authority Group’s Managing Director, Peter Hosper.

Jamal Ahmed Al Awadhi—Etihad Airways Head of Guest Experience—stated, “While many airlines have been squeezing more seats into economy class, we continue to focus on providing our guests with exceptional products and services that meet and exceed the demands and budgets of different types of travellers.”
